Words, Words, Words Mug – Election Promises

« Every election, my dad plays that same old song! »

A man settled into his armchair, tablet in hand, feet up on the footrest, listening to an old 1970s vinyl pulled from his shelves. Above the scene, three words drift off in musical notes: paroles, paroles, paroooles… Two teenagers walk past behind the wall, schoolbags on, and one of them delivers the line that lands the whole joke.

It reads in a second and needs no explaining: promise season is back, and it comes with a soundtrack.

A gift for those who follow campaigns with a mix of attention and weariness: campaigners, political journalists, social science teachers, local councillors, and anyone who talks back to the evening news.
