Golden Sun Mug – Art Deco Portrait

A face between two materials.

A portrait split down the middle: on the left, a cracked black texture run through with gold; on the right, fissured white plaster where the gold leaf breaks the surface. Behind it, a golden sun disc fills half the background. Black and gold foliage climbs from the bottom left, and vertical strokes run down like paint that has not yet dried.

This is the most graphic piece in the series: it plays less on the beauty of the portrait than on the contrast of the materials — stone, gold, ink.

A gift for those who like decorative objects with no message attached: contemporary art lovers, black-and-gold interiors, a housewarming or a thank-you.
